I assumed a man of your years would have a sun dial in his pocket

Pocket? It wouldn't have been able to be accommodated in the loin cloth...

Iv got the G-Shock mud man and like it pretty well. Just a basic watch, time, date, alarms and stopwatch but does what I need. only problem with it is that it starts fogging up on the inside after a year. Was still within warranty last year and they replaced it for free but has started doing it again. The watch stays on my wrist 24/7 so might be different if take it off for showers ect not that you should have to.
The GPS watches from Garmin look the shit but are a bit bigger and have to charge them weekly.

I thought you had a selection available?

Phone is so much more useful.

You could take a few more steps off that pier and hit the alti reset for sea level Gibo

another option to the g shock is the casio protrek models. I really like mine smaller than a g with bigger time display. comp/alt/temp etc. Like gibo says alt is shit unless reset often(i Gave up) comp works well. I am a casio dealer if you a price on a certain model. mine is prg300.

I've got the 'simple' G-shock too.
Take it off for showers, swimming and bed - 2 years on, no problems.
Looking at my user guide - says it's pressure tested to 10M water depth - but also says 'Do not immerse in hot or warm water'.
Never tried to 'test' the depth guarantee though or the temperature.
