That’s the same weak excuse you always here from retailers. I get the information the same as everyone else, through research and reviews. Like most savvy buyers I dont need to travel to HnF to try on gear or equipment so please don’t put me in that group

I support local when i can, some retailers need to sharping there prices at times to meet nation wide prices. I dont buy overseas

I'm intending spending my way out of this

I have a list of capital purchases I intend making when we are able to access those business again.
I'm not wanting opertunistic discounts due to the covid shock.
But I will have to be careful and get the best return for the capital spent

Purchases based on allowing me to maybe move my business in a slightly new direction .

Most of my work was indirectly related to domestic and foreign tourism
Public and private visitor accomodation working on DoC and private huts.

They will still be an important recreational resource for kiwis but I doubt that there will be money spent on them in the near future

I suspect (hope) firms like H&F that were happy to throw FAL holders under the bus will regret the loss of goodwill they generated.

I’ve got businesses that I’ve supported pre-covid. Will support post covid. Done the online thing personally for small minor items. Missus was big on global shopping mainly cos she could only get the product overseas. One notable purchase was a cake mixer but was bought from overseas as could be delivered here cheaper than going into a shop and buying it.

I never have and never will buy from overseas...I like to buy locally and if thats at a H&F franchise...so be it...if I can find item cheaper elsewhere I will give local guy the chance to match price.....if they can get close,I will buy local...its a hell of a lot easier if something goes wrong to take it down the road and give them the issue of fixing it....
looking around at just how much is made in china....reaaly makes you stop n think.... fuel tank at one farm I visit made by NYMIC engineering....not yet made in china...love it...
did I hear swazi is now made in china????? surely not...Davey is on record as saying "Id rather use my balls as bearings on a merrygoround than get my products made in china"

I buy local, what is locally made, or where I have expectations of requiring service/support.

I accept where I buy, say ex AliExpress, I’m buying budget, and my expectations of quality or support are as low as the price.

There are some NZ retailers who’ve done the hard yards, have sourced ex China and identified the quality/reliable suppliers, and I’ll use them with the knowledge of their obligations to me under the fair trading act etc. I willingly pay a reasonable premium to support their efforts.

I will not use a retailer who is incapable of recognising my loyalty to him/her is a per-purchase decision; equally I do not feel upset if I’ve paid a little more to a NZ retailer who provides knowledge, support and a smile when I choose to buy from them.

I have no doubt some storefront retailers are going to feel the bite of their customer base becoming more ‘alternative-supplier’ conscious. They will need to not only match, but exceed the online experience their overseas counterparts offer

I recently purchased ex USA via Cavells for a product I couldn’t source locally. A number of NZ businesses could learn a lot from looking at such websites and ease of purchase.

I suspect people are going to change their tune significantly once the current stock of "goodies" in NZ runs out.

I buy from a couple of local vendors (55Six, Gunworks, BlackWatch, WorkshopInnovation, Taihape Sports) as long as their prices are realistic.

What I refuse to do is buy from local guys who think it is ok to rape customers purely for being loyal to local suppliers.

In the end I probably by about half my toys from overseas, definitely the larger ticket items.

I'm the same . I will support local and respect that they need some profit margins that's fair enough. I suspect I'm not the only one who googles the shit out of anything I even think about buying. So unless you've got pots of cash or cant wait, not many will get touched without realizing.

I moved here from the UK 10 years ago and haven't left the borders since. I don't intend to travel overseas for some time anyway and I still have a lot to explore here. I do tend to buya lot online from the UK but thats because some of the niche stuff I purchase isn't available here. If it is available here then I tend to buy from here for convenience, unless its overpriced chinese made tat as others have stated, in those cases I buy from aliexpress.

I think the entire planet has a lot of work to do post-virus and its not going to be easy. Keeping it as local as possible would be a start. Being so remote I do however expect the price of anything that originates overseas to be inflate in price a LOT.

Who doesn't, especially for big ticket items? I'm occasionally surprised and find that local prices are similar to online prices. With respect to hunting/shooting gear, the only stores anywhere near me are H&F.

I brought a custom rifle locally (really locally) 6 years ago (actually I brought 3 over a short period), biggest mistake of my life.

2 were great but the first one has been an ongoing source of pain.
Never buy local, Never pay Up front either, I did and now I am having to spend another big chuck of cash fixing something that was never right in the first place,

All the promises of wonderful service and back up in the world evaporated on delivery!! I would have got better service and support had I brought a rifle from Hunting and Fishing!
