    Slight hijack of the thread.

IN colder conditions - how do you folks deal with condensation on the outside of your bag after sleeping in it. My understanding is it's moisture travelling off your body and condensating when it exits the bag due to lower ambient temperature.

Had it a lot in Nelson and my bag kept going but was definitely not as lofty as usual.

This may help. I recently cleaned and dried my quilts and puffer gear. Used Nikwax cleaning and their water proofing products. Was in a tipi tent floorless shelter for 36 hours in the rain. The inside of the tipi fly was dripping with condensation being a single wall. Shoukd have brought my inner tent insert. While my quilt was damp on the surface, I noticed the water was beadingbon the surface. I was warm and dry the whole time despite.

Bags lose some intregity quite quickly and the light ones have thin outers and tend to take on moisture easily.

I have given up and gone to a heavier, protective outer with plenty of warmth. Gone sea to summit alpine at 1360grms and ideal in the snow.

I have a western mountaineering bag for 3 seasons

    Good point HJ,
If you pack a down jacket and light down pants, a good 3 season bag is almost too hot for most winter camping.

I had a mate who took a hot water bottle Tahr hunting with us. He used it in the Growler. That was a cold bitch of a place in the 80's. We scoffed but were secretly jealous.

Nalgene bottle, boil the billy before bed, bottle goes in spare sock and between your thighs to heat you up via your femoral arteries
