I have an Exped Airmat Lite and its probably colder than other mats but I havnt used others so im none the wiser, have used it in some pretty cold places (tahr ballot blocks etc) and never thought it was a problem.

Plus it only weighs 350gms for a full length mat which has got to be a good thing...

Go insulated man, no real reason not to other than price. When the ground gets cold having a good mat is so much more comfortable. Ive done a couple of fringe trips using a z lite, and could feel the heat being sucked from underneath me. The winterlite is wicked, and warm as. Makes a hell of a difference

I have an older Downmat Lite 5, I'd probably go for one of the synthetic mats if I was replacing it now - mostly for the convenience of blowing it up by mouth without worrying about down getting damp.

Mine came with a puncture repair kit in the stuffsack (and a 5 year warranty, the ultralight versions only have 2yrs IIRC). Of course finding a tiny hole to fix it when you're out in the hills might not be so easy...

That's annoying, mine has several patches that all seem to be working well-but on flat parts

If you're on a tight budget, consider the Aliexpress offerings. Just search for 'jr gear primaloft'. Approx $US65.

My Synmat 7 leaks too and I'm buggered if I can find the leak (tried the bath). Piss poor quality really.

I tried using the bathtub, it worked but couldn't patch, that system works well for bike inner tubes as well. Nothing worse than waking up in the night and having to blow it back up, esp if someone else is in the tent

Now looking at replacing previously mentioned leaking mat.

Is the exped winterlite still the go? Looking for one that packs down pretty small, down insulated would be nice. Don't mind using the bag to blow it up with.
