Thread: Your gear shed

Moving into our own house shortly so will finally be able to set up a decent gear shed man cave and bolt to walls etc and do some damage if need be.
What have people got to organize their gear.?
Shelving containers?
Looking for inspiration.
Would likely include hunting reloading fishing and camping gear

Pretty much two walls of aluminium shelving. Rods on hooks on the walls above the shelves. Spares and things I don't use very often in plastic storage boxes on the shelves. Plastic trays for things I use all the time. Roughly split in to diving, fishing and hunting. Have some coat hooks for outer layers of clothing. Wetsuits thrown over a free standing clothes rail. Another set of big hooks for backpacks which I seem to accumulate at an alarming rate!

Row of coat hooks on wall to hang jackets, packs etc. Most other stuff lives in 2 large plastic bins with lids as no dedicated room for it to live in

3 drawer filing cabinets with old commercial solid core door on top as a bench top , can fill with heaps of tools easy sliding and bench height is perfect . Under a 100 from tip recyclers .

Just me and the dog so apart from the kitchen and bathroom, living room, bedroom and hallway are full of gear.

The third bedroom, Queen bed for visitors doubles as a storage area for boxes of dehy and airing out sleeping bags, packs and gun bags under the bed. Cubby hole storage along the wall holds tents and tarp, mattresses, lighting, wet weather gear, knifes and tools. Wardrobe for sleeping bags and wetsuits and walking sticks.
Fishing gear has its own racks in the garage.

Shed is 3x cars long and 1.5/2ish wide. Somewhere in that region is most of my shit and a workbench or two.

Quite interesting though that I can visualize every item in every drawer inside the house.

I use large tubs (60 l) on pallet racking shelves about 6m long and 2.1 m high.
Also have racks for rods, surf boards and hanging wet suits, waders etc to dry.

Yes that sounds good think that's the way I'll go

I've got my stuff sorted by use and put into apple boxes. They are free, stackable and I just write on the end what is inside. When they get tatty it's off to the supermarket for a new set.

Jackets are hanging up, and boots are always out because they get used all year round.

I use different set ups for different items - based on security &/or need for certain storage conditions (temp or moisture).
Reloading - all powders & primers, loaded ammo are under lock & key in the man cave (colour steel shed) which itself is double security locked, with motion sensors, alarms and CCTV. A set of metal clothes lockers 2 level, like in your changing rooms at gym for reloading powders, components and ammo. Plus a large steel lockable box from Bunnings and a floor mounted safe.
Pills are in large plastic bins with clip seal lids, one for each calibre. And I use an old set of drawers for all the brass, dies, tools and other goodies.
Hunting clothes, jackets, gear, binos, camera, tents, packs, boots etc all reside in 2x double wardrobes in spare room in house. Use the large clip seal plastic boxes in the wardrobe to keep things in organised "families".
I've built a special secure lock up in side my man cave shed for gun safe, optics, stocks, stuff & spare parts etc. Also keep all my tools - saws, drills, router, etc etc in the lock up. Keeps everything out of sight and not easily accessible if the worst happened.
When all else fails buy a bigger house or shed

Whatever turns up free or cheap usually.
If I cant find it when I need it I usually wait it out... Good things take time.

The less you spend on shelving etc, the more you can spend on cool stuff to put on those shelves.
