    i do think it technology works off the duity amount which on $400

    clothing has higher duity they the xtra chargers really ad up

    So the $400 thing is a bit misunderstood. Customs collects fees if the total fees owed (gst+duty) are greater than $60. The 400 dollar limit is only valid if you are importing an item that does incur any duty. Ie it's just the gst. Scopes ect and most sporting goods don't incur any duty so you are good up to the $400 limit. Clothing has quite a high duty (10% from memory) making total spent before they sting you closer to $300.

    The bit that is dumb Imo is the levies, should be a sliding scale or percentage of total cost not a flat rate. $50 of levies to collect $60 tax is daylight robbery
