To be fair, I am still using the same 4 boxes of 20g ammo I brought for ducks/pheasants 4 years ago. I shoot a lot of ammo at clays but nevr have much luck on the duckies and pheassies. Shooting spots are hard to find and the duck numbers are nothing like Canterbury (where I grew up). Still fun getting out though

I should have phrased my original question better. I wasn't try to imply I will cut through 500 rounds on the opening four days because I won't.
The two slabs will last into next year. I did the same last year and have still got 5 boxs. Going to be good though. Not long now

just dug out my stash, got a full slab of falcon "3 steel #2, half a slab of kent fast steel 2 3/4 #2, and a mix of over 100 other random rounds, all #2 shot tho. dose anyone think #4 shot is a bit small for large open water shooting? i thoght i might give it a go and see if more spread will get me more ducks

I shoot pheasants through the bird season.Shoot forestry and private farms in the BOP if I can get access. Favourite load Federal PF154 2 3/4" #6 and #7.5. Very fast and hard hitting copper plated lead-1550ft/sec....just don't shoot em too close!
Shoot about 50 birds per season although I only shot 27 last year....bloody herbicide use in forest killing all the inkweed/blackberry! Use less than 4 boxes/season and I'm not that good a shot

I will let you know. We have previously used Kent 3" going as fast as hell in #2 shot, and some Federal I managed to find. Both shotties cracked parts by the end of the year (Rem 1187 - never had a problem before). This year I have gone for Falcon 3" in #4 for first shot, followed by Falcon 3" in #3 shot-both 1-1/4oz at 1450fps. We shoot on a large lagoon, so I will be interested to see how it goes. I reckon it will be the ducks nuts!!!!!!!!:

Think I still got a box & 1/2 from three years ago & keep stocking up every year.Bit of a stash in the shed.
Found Eley 36gr steel #4 very good shell @ 1550fps ,effective on parries too.
Wasn't able to get hold of any more so various other brands in 36gr # 2 & 3 shot as did have some concerns about #4 shot being a bit light .#2 steel equivalent to lead #4 apparently .
