there is some merit in placing even a single whitehead decoy slightly off to one side of mallard spread...MOST times any parries that do come in will head for it...and when we actually have enough water to set our pread out properly,we set half dozen parries where we can stil ltarget them will short stalk around tree and it keeps the mallards from landing in that corner. funnily enough the bright spoonie decoys SEEM to be almost magnetic when birds want to land IN the decoys..maybe they figgure "we can push them plurry spoonies around, lets dive bomb them"

So a good use of old decoys is just to paint them black? All over with a spray can?

yes and no...... matt black with no shine..but seriously,go into resene and buy half dozen wee test pots and have a go at doing job right, its plurry good fun and fills in time nicely. with spray can stay well back and do numerous light layers...better still is to try repaint and then give gentle LIGHT spray over with matt black ..lots of commercial drake decoys are very bright grey/tan...toning them down with spray is childsplay

scratchfill primer is about as dull as you can get too...finding correct colour can be problimatic.
