    Duck Opening 2014

Had a great weekend (well sorta)
Ended up crook as a dog duck opening (and for the first time it wasnt self inflicted), so only shot for a couple of hours then was bed ridden for 24 hours.

Managed to take 2 blackies and 2 woodies opening morning. Ellie retrieving a blackie then a woodie. So the blackie is going on the wall as a memento to Ellie's first retrieve. When I was feeling better Sunday took out my 12 year old brother who was having his first season and we shot some dams and channels. Got 9 between us quite easily before I got the orders from the missus to come home.

Managed to take my second ever hardhead drake so he's going on the wall too! such a beautiful duck with their blue bill and white eye (also Australia's hardest duck to shoot).

Unfortunately the excitement was so high and because I was sick opening morning there were no pics which I know makes this thread boring, I'll take some of the ducks I'm having mounted.

Very very proud of my little girl Ellie though, retrieved 8 ducks her first opening weekend, some a long way out so I'm wrapped as could be!

Pretty confident I've got my Black duck pose sorted i.e. like this

Hardhead though tossing up between flying and sitting. Sitting shows off that beautiful chestnut brown and white underbelly but flying gives that white bar wing that gets us aussie duck hunters barring up. Nothing like seeing that trailing white bar on the wing of a hardhead hammering towards you!

My oath, blackies are our "premier game bird" and what most people chase. Hardheads are good too. The old man always said though, the two best eating are bluewings and pinkear off a salt swamp.

Mountain ducks (similar to your parries) are a bit tough and wood ducks arent great unless they've been fattened up on grain. If the shooting is good I let those two species fly by the rest are great eating!

fuck mate you're welcome to foxes, fucking scum of the earth those things. They've wiped out heaps of species since they've been here.

I think they're a sub-species similar to your shovelers and our bluewing.
