Warm clear weather arrived in the Northern Waikato for a few days last week so we decided to give the ducks a break and went after some Pheasants
Best mate had purchased a new U/O Beretta just before the season and I've been playing away with a 28ga I bought for my eldest to learn with
Our first hunt we managed to bag a Rooster each making it the first for both these guns

    [ATTACH]224623[ATTACH]

A day or two after that we went out again this time with 2x more friends who have never shot pheasants, the conditions were perfect with squally bursts in between sunshine and we managed to pull off the most spectacular hunt of our lives, ending in a 4 man limit
My GWP was on form, and the shooting was also, doubt we will ever replicate that shoot for the rest of my days

    [ATTACH]224622[ATTACH]

Ripper of a season so far and cant wait for my days off to get back out there! Hot barrels everyone

Went out Tuesday morning and it was very quiet, except for a group of 5 Parries that came in. Only 2 went out, so 3 for 3.

Foggy as this morning. Patience was required but Thor retrieved 4 parries and 1 fat mallard. Thor has a very soft mouth so had to stick his head under the water a few times on that winged mallard ha ha. Submarine dog!Name: 20230527_103202.jpg

when i met GSPFhe had a unique goose retreival unit a bloody 4legged d8"elvis(by rottweiller x GSP)aka by roamin catholic x opportunity. He reumbled like a d8warming up and pigheaded yep once on the retrieve nothing or noone broke his concentration til lhe reappeared load secured in huge bloody jaws."Red" a gsp was his understudy-my mate and the bane of elvis/gspfs tolerance .shed be bird down and Red would be eager to leave the maimai whining as they dso -ewlvis'big frame would fillthe doorway and yep reds neck would get leant on to a snarled get back from the shooter.back on my pack hed sit lookin for sympathy.one day it happened -a cxocky goose answering GSPfs seductive come hump me call fell to the deadly wee 20g weilded with skill... both dogs exited maimai at warp speed on the job -Elvis on seeing the carcasse .dropped arse slid to a halt -red impacted and scooped it up.elvis me rely looked turned and walked back leaving red to drag it back!! Alas both dogs are gone ,Elvis to incurable kidney disease and Red whod really come into his prime accidentally drowned in a culvert in the RDR.It broke all of our hearts . two bloody mighty characters whom illnever ever forget.

Yes. Nice creek running through it. Full of trout and some eels as well. Good variety of wetland birds to watch and enjoy too. Am fortunate.

slow sunday in the whangamarino. Hardly heard a shot fired. Managed 3 missed a heap due to allsorts of issues. Crap shooting, mates waiting for birds to get closer when i had them close enough. And falling asleep in the hut after having to wader in to our spot due to everything been flooded. The 3k walk was sure a beauty.
