Yea na, like this. Only little rope but you can imagine what it is like trying to drive a marling spike into rope like your first vid!

Main difference with wire is its wound with the lay instead of across the lay like fiber rope and each strand is completed before the next is started. The "fid" or "marling spike" is wound forward, strand inserted then wound back tight to lock it in then forward again to reinsert. Didn't watch the whole vid but it didn't look like they were going to taper it in.
On big rope its a two man job working the spike in turns

Best guy I've seen on wire rope was a Canadian logging trainer we had down south, man alive could he spice!!
