    My opening weekend

Well I wasn't expecting much at all actually. No one was to be honest. Anyway me and dad got shit faced the night before (We'll only have a few and bed by ten) you know how it is...

Anyway wake up at 4 hobble to the all ready packed ute and pop turns up with his bike and we're off. Following him out to the lake

Pulled up at the beach unloaded the vehicles and loaded the bikes up and drive how ever far it is to the mai-mai. Nice ride bloody warm along that beach compared to inland a bit. All sitting there no wind no clouds to be seen as the sun raised.... GAAAYYYY

Anyhow I was so fucking wrong about everything I couldn't have been anymore wrong, wronger? Nah I was the wrongest cunt out there

Old people know their shit it's about as simple as that. This was my face when shit hit the fan (for the ducks) Still can't believe it

Had my trusty retriever out there going about his business. I call him dad, weird name for a retriever but hey he gets the ducks

Shot 15 the Saturday, all double barrel guns, they hate semis. Copped a bit of shit last year for the pump gun

Pop still nails those ducks mean as. Not bad for a old guy. Shot a suicidal grey me and the old man didn't even see until it was too late. I literally only just picked my gun up to shoulder it and he had the sucker dead. He uses the SKB U/O in the back there with the 30" barrels.

No high tech "Rubbish shit" as they'd put it, old wood caller no plastic in sight and 15 duckish shaped bits of polystyrene for decoys. Worked a treat too the guys about 150 or so meters away had 3 robo ducks a ton of mean looking decoys and shot nothing. Though they did have shots, dreamers shooting at geese about 150m away. I have a feeling it was because they were coming right too us and they didn't want to watch us collecting more birds off the lake

These were the 10 we got this morning. We never shot at night. Was only me and dad this morning pop reckons there wasn't going to be much out there wrong move pop. They're going tomorrow I said I have school which I do but I have this strange feeling I'll be duck shooting the river

I think what made it the best opening was the fact there was 3 generations shooting and it was pops last season. Also all this talk of me getting his gun ohhhhhh yeeaaahhh.

Brilliant report Toby. Old fellah's do know their shit and don't you eve forget it. Why is it your pops last duck shooting season? I think his giving you his shot gun is fantastic and says so much about his confidence in your ability to respect its value to him and look after it.
