    Pheasant advice around Gisborne

    Hi All

Thinking of expanding horizons and exploring some new pheasant country other than the mighty Manawatu. Gisborne seems worth a look so wondering if anyone has any advice on where to go (or not go), what forestry block are good, rivers that are huntable etc

    Cheers

A bloke I know used to work up Tologa Bay way and on the way home from the pub used to mow down fezzies with his ute . Biggest haul was 40.

The best pheasant hunting is on private land, most of the forestry there is hill country and not that good shooting. There is no public land available for upland in the region. My advice is to door knock up around Ruatoria, for access to the river beds, good shooting to be had all through there

oh and maize, maize is your friend! Was over there a few weeks back, had a quick look about on the way back from Tobys. Didn't bag anything but seems to be another good year for numbers

Thanks for the advice, sounds like a few birds around if you can get into the right spots, will do some more research and see what can come up with

To be honest, most of the coasties I met up there didn't care about access for shooting pheasants. Most just say help yourself. But ask to hunt their pigs! Lookout!

As for the 40 pheasants on the road thing, I lived there for years, never saw anything close to that. In fact seeing one on the road is good for Gizzy. Just saying
