New shotgun still seems to be shooting straight, couple birds from a good day out today

Not sure what this one was thinking, I'd been hunting all the sunny spots and was crossing to a new area, 11am and this bit was still covered in frost, dog went on point and I was thinking surely not, but up he went. Hard to tell from photos but he had 39 bars

Another good point but only clipped this one and he was lively when he landed. After getting the pup to calm down and back into the right area she tracked him where he'd run and picked him up hiding under some scrub and pulled him out. It's times like that you want your old dogs but she got there in the end

20g, number 5 bird shot! Mate was stalking what he thought was a running rooster, and then bambi stuck it's head up at about 3m, so he gave it a barrel behind the ear in frustration for leading him on

Couple birds from weekend. One was quite hard case, pup was pointing and up went a quail, shot that and went over and picked it up and it was in quite a mess (photo not suitable for publication) and in the corner of my eye I see a cock pheasant ducking through the scrub about 5m away! Quickly dropped the quail and up went the rooster and a couple of hasty shots managed to bring him down. So I'm not sure if dog was pointing the pheasant and the quail was unlucky or the other way round, either way was a bit of fun!

found some sambar sign as well

Another season over, and the long wait till next year begins. Took the old dogs for a walk this afternoon, no roosters even seen but lots of hens bodes well for next year, still a few quail about though

Last weekends effort, 2 birds on the second to last weekend of the season was rather pleasing. Pup has had a bloody awesome first season, still a bit to learn but am wrapt with how she's gone.

Really nice looking GSP, where is she from? You are so lucky to have such good areas to hunt, my area jam packed with gorse and blackberry.

Thanks, not sure what I'm going to do with her now, she's got a ton of energy from regular hunting every week, might have to take up running to try use some of her energy

Yeah, he still hunts fine but pays for it when he gets home and stiffens up

She's from Ridgerunner Kennels in Manawatu. The forests are pretty good for terrain. Rivers do have a bit of blackberry round, I get told off when I bring her home full of thorns. Last week a rooster did a runner under some blackberry, I was wincing as she dived in and gave chase, wife pulled out about a dozen thorns and one from her eyebrow so got a telling off for not looking after her furbaby
