No it goes live bird in trap, dead bird, live bird in trap

You can see the whole thing in order (just the bird work) here

those are the same grounds where this trial is going to be

so why has the last dead bird gone, there was always a dead bird after each trap to simulate the bird being shot

There has only ever been one dead bird since I've started trialling.

It's not a very good simulation if the dog watches the bird fly away.

exactly why pigeon trials dont appeal to me, the 2 dead bird retrieve may have been changed by the pointer n setter owners as most of there dogs are forced trained and only capable of 1 retrieve..

I am of the mindset whilst things are not perfect for all people and dogs does that mean we should not still support events - I would rather run on a large open moor but that aint going to happen either as I am sure you would love to do Z -Ill work with what I have -not a lot of choice in the matter

If anyone is thinking about entering. It might pay to give Gail a ring and enter by phone.

More often than not in the cover I hunt the dogs don't actually see the bird shot and drop.

Being able to hunt up dead is an important skill.

I said it's not a very good simulation of a shot bird but it's still important that they be able to do it.

Everyone complains about the formats but no one does anything about it. Its better than nothing and it's nothing that should prevent a good dog from being successful. I don't mind, I run in what's offered.

i probably am going to trial my new pointer when i get 1, it still doesnt appeal to me but as you say, its all we have got other than live game trials. Patch is 8 so I wont bother with him.

Looks like a really solid entry for this trial. If anyone is interested and they haven't done so already, call Gail Blankley to enter.

There are a lot of entries so they are trying to make sure they have enough birds/time to get everything in. They may have to cap entries.

If you're interested in coming to watch, message me for directions. The SAGDC grounds are really good for watching the dogs run and there will be PS dogs, HPRs and retrievers running.

Yes, it is important...as they can lose valuable points for not doing the retrieve well...it does, however, crack me up how the judge is proffered the buckets of defrosted/defrosting pigeons to check over them prior to the judging...I cannot blame a dog for being hesitant in picking one of those birds up, especially those dogs who are hunted over for the REAL thing
