Parries need to be classed as pest heaps of damage down here but I don't mind the phone calls "Kill em Dundee"

I have seena drastic reduction in their numbers around my place ever since they came up and killed some chicks. I live near a wetland area and there used to be a plague of them but I thinned out about forty last season so numbers are down and about to decrease further at parrie weekend which allows us to shoot then for a week. They are also a pest at out local golf course, ranger gave us a permit to shoot them last summer and it included using rifles so we took about another forty but they have come back to similar numbers this year.
If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.

I've noticed numbers have jumped up in areas where there is pheasants and quail which is a concern....I keep seeing groups of 4-5 Pukekos walking along the grass patches on the motorway too....

    Pukekos everywhere...

Would need to check dates etc but i'm sure they have a longer in season time from the likes of duck shooting opening. need to shoot more in season, then no one can disagree. They are up in numbers for sure.

my cockie is close to Ellesmere and he knocks them over whenever. They rip open all the silage bales, shit all over his hay and are a complete nuisance when there are 50 or 60 around at one time.

they are fair game for a week starting parrie weekend. hopefully, like the spur winged plover, they get removed from protection schedule and we can bang on them anytime. certainly are in massive numbers in areas around here. I have also noticed more ducks around the wetland this summer and even saw a bittern for the first time so maybe that is down to having less "pooh kakers" haha

i voted yes but like you munnsey im sceptical of the motives .tho to me its a travesty that pooks are in and the canada goose is out.
could be worth a trial in the north island they seem to do better up there.surely our 3 month season is enough to keep threm in check here ??
organisedd hunt should be given a seasons crack rather than straight into declassifying ,as much as i dislike them, the motives and precedent set by the geese then them might be hard to turn back

Reality is that most people don't shoot Pukeko in season and then wonder why the numbers get up.
