With all the rain over the past day or so we decided we had to get amongst it this morning in the hope of scoring some worm hunting mallards in the flooded paddocks.
Things were looking up until the nearby river came up really fast due to yesterdays rain and we had to vacate as we were soon in mid thigh deep water where previously there was less than a foot. The road in the picture below had only a couple of puddles when we drove through it earlier but by the time we packed up the floaters and full bodies we had out it was up to the wheel arches! I was pleased we didn't leave our call to leave later.
So with that hunt cancelled due to too much water a change in tact was required. With so much water around the ducks were in lots of small groups across the province and there wasn't really enough wind to stir them up. In the end we decided to go shoot some clays and then head out for a look at the evening flight.
We positioned ourselves on a flooded paddock underneath a known flightline and thankfully with lots of calling we managed to coax down enough ducks to complete another couple of limit bags
