there is alot of areas to shoot on lake wairarapa and on the rivers around it, i do alot of shooting when its duck season it can be pretty hit and miss at times but when its on you can get your bag before your coffee goes cold. are you looking for a place for this opening weekend?

Im new to Wellington area and looking for a place for opening and some outing during the season. Open for any ideas or advice.

I have been to fish and game but did not give me that much. Was thinking of heading over the the wairarapa and look or a spot on a river. Any thing I should be looking for / staying away from / or access issues I should know about?

theres plenty of shooting to be had in the wairarapa. youd want to invest in a good retriever tho the rivers are hard going and they like to die 500m from shore on the lake. bloody steel shot is great...

You think you could get on without a dog to retrieve?? Pretty keen to get out there but I don't think my little mutt will handle dragging a duck around

certainly a casting rod with a xstick instead of a sinker or a wieghted jag hook.

on the lake you would be fine, if you were to shoot on the rimahunga river down by the lakes youd never get your ducks its deep and very dangerous. heaps of ducks fly up the river tho so if youve got a dog its worth a go.
