They let some chuks go in the kawekas and central north island

They just didn't take. Shoulda pushed a bunch out after a big 1080
Drop give them a head start .
Don't know about the chukars in the Kawekas, but my father told me about the Acclimatization guys liberating the Brown Quail in the high country near the Kawekas...he told them that the birds would not be suited for that country; they scoffed and he being the humble man he was never said 'told you so' when the covey fizzled out...
