Keep us posted on how you get on Cam I'm real interested in this thread just got myself a Shimano Stradic 4000 and Shimano Nano 8-15lb rod setup for softbait, spooled it with 8lb braid, and have no clue what I'm doing with it!

I go down to a 10lb fluro leader on softbait setup. Unless you are fishing a snaggy reef or similar, it is fine. Bite rate increases quite dramatically.

Bit off topic but boys down here went for a surf cast off Amberley Beach last night and ended up coming home with a few panny snapper each, blew me away, never heard of snaps being caught off Amberley

Blew me away too Munsey, they are Filipino blokes and they always fish there but usually only catch sharks, elephants etc. They didn't know what a snapper was, sent me that photo with "hey boss what is this fish? Is good to eat? Today we just got these ones "

Should have told them they're terrible eating, drop them off and I will give them to the dog...

    Hard case.
You do hear of them being caught surfcasting at Greymouth so it stands to reason they should be down the other coast too but thats the first time I have heard of them being caught there.

I was warned off 10p by Mark at big blue, he reconed he lost too many snapper on it as they can completely swallow the lure and jig head then you are left with the trace running over its teeth...they smash up shell fish with those Jaws.
