HB rivers are pretty much stuffed for the short term. I went with a few mates to Taupo for a golf and tennis weekend and decided to take a rod. Fished the Hinemaiaia last Sunday. Very cold but primo day. Plenty of fish, clear and low river. Spawning fish in great nick. Mildly hung over. No shortage of other anglers. Caught a couple and went home. I think I'll be spending a bit more time in the region till or rivers come right.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

A few hours chilling swinging flies, hooked 6, landed 3....kept a nice 5.5lb jack.
Still not huge numbers but the quality of the ones coming through is pleasing.

Rainbow from Lake Dunstan, again softbaiting with black and gold paddle tail which work very well in the lake.
Actually kept this one and given to elderly neighbours for their dinner.

First time fishing for a while as I have been skiing up a storm, but popped over to the mouth of the Matukituki this arvo and picked up a nice rainbow. Ate him for dinner.

Hey all the pros...Do you think #12 fly hook can catch a legal size trout? The biggest hook I can buy from here is #10, but I do `t like it. The fish is about 25cm I landed recently, a stream fighter using #12. Thank you, I am going to fishing my shopping list and go "home".
