A strong downstream wind made nymphing challenging but I still managed to have some success.
Hooked 7 and landed all 7, not very often I pull that off

Not long back from our annual pilgrimage to Lake Rotoiti. Fishing was a little slow, but caught some nice conditioned fish. Great eating.

Happy days at the Groynes thanks to the good folks who stock the kids’ fishing lakes. Zoë’s first on a nymph, she’s learning to tie them herself now

With the main runs pretty much done, I had a whole stretch of river to myself with the decline in angler pressure.
There's still plenty of fish moving though, hooking 11, landing 9....all but 1 were primo condition, silver as and full of fight.
Highlight of the day were 2 stunning hens - 5.5lbs and 5lbs, full of eggs that were released to continue their journey.
And then a fat as 4.5lb jack that got a ride home

Yes, a pristine day on Lake Roxburgh. Very aggressive rainbow at the mouth of Shingle Creek during our lunch stop.

Must reread this entire thread. The rainbow that I hooked was on this wee Gold Rush lure, which has a lot of similarities to the Mepps Thunderbugs that @Dundee favours. My first cast was with a Veltic which hooked up on first cast but was promptly spat out and then to add insult to injury, the damn fish started to leap about on the surface then disappeared. Changed lures a few times but no bites. Found this one, still new in the packet, and sent it. Second cast, it got absolutely smashed and the rest was history.

I’m a casual fisherman at best and this rainbow was the best freshwater fish I’ve ever caught so was pretty stoked about it. A nice reward for actually applying myself to the task I think!!
Having the boat has been a real incentive but more so for my wife, as I get more pleasure out of teaching her and seeing her catching fish than I do myself.

Another great day on the mighty T.
    Hooked 18, landed 11.
Mix of recovering spawners along with a few chrome bars including a couple of bust offs.

Had the lad out with me a few times this month just getting some exercise with recovery and also just to get out amongst it.

Rivers down here are stupidly high.

Managed 1 small 1lb silver bullet on a black magic spin max in the 13g weight.

I've even managed a quick session with the fly rod and seen about 5 in the side flows. Caught a real ripper rainbow jack about 5lb but wasn't quick enough with the camera before he hauled away.

Give it 2-3 weeks provided the rain stays away and we might get into some better fishing. River levels remind me of similar levels to when Gunns camp got taken out.
