be easy enough to rig up a Lynx or hairspray powered spud gun

super easy to build and freezing your bait inside butter or even ice/burley the perfect size in cans with the top cut off with a potato pusher would do the business

nearly lost some fingers when one came apart in my hands after I pointed out a crack in the PVC cap and said out loud do you think that crack is a problem?

crack is always a problem kids

@Bill999 I’ve purchased a Big Bertha unit, have test fired it without “ammo” am getting a reel wound with 40 lb braid, full tit range at 120 psi is about 300 metres using frozen bait package or same at 110 psi using just lead sinker, and hook with tied on bait. Gotta work out a Bungi to take the initial shock, so line goes as well. Be handy with some info by some already up and running. Also firing light lures out on Taupo for spinning.

I would think the biggest problem will be trying to get the line to feed off a reel if you plan to use one. The bungi idea is a good one. A shock leader is usually to stop the line breaking when coming into contact with a rock or other item likely to cut the line when under tension. I have used a double 50lb one tied to the mono mainline when fishing areas like Castlepoint where you have to lift the fish up a rock face where it might touch the rock and ping, it's gone. Does make it a bit harder to cast.
You could have the line hung in big loops on the front of the cannon to it lifts it of the hanger as it leaves

Just run a shock leader FG knotted to the braid.
Point rod just over Cannon at the same angle line will peel out no problem.
Lob a bit out and retrieve first to wet line and guides before the first go

Sitting on the reef, watching the sharks and catching gurnard, sound like a previous life I had with a brother-in-law, many years ago. Or surfing in front of the store or the lagoon with the waves coming over the gap and getting the mini bellied in the soft sand.

I have always caught a fish when I've gone there, but it's almost 2.5hrs each way so makes for a big day.
Was impressed by the length of the drawbars on the commercial boats parked on the sand.

A few rod lengths of 50 pound should take the shock out if you are using braid

I’d be inclined to use all nylon
Braid if it catches on anything will likely snap

Be interesting to see how you get on, we just use long lines with torpedos if the wind isn’t going the right way
