East Coast Rivers - Trout fishing after the floods

    Hi All,

Have a trip planned up one of the main Northern HB rivers in a couple of weeks time, just wondering what everyone's thoughts would be on if its worth going after all of the flooding, From what we have heard the the road in is/was currently closed so still waiting to hear if its been reopened and the extent of damage up that way.

Not sure if the trout will have taken a hammering after the floods or if they are resilient little buggers and will be back in the normal haunts once the river has dropped/cleared up.

Just seeing if I should have a plan B up the sleeve, give the river/tout time to recover and fish elsewhere.

    Cheers

Where/ what river are you planning to hit? Personally ive found it pretty tough going after a big rain like weve had. I think you should be fine if your still a couple weeks off the trip. Plan for plan A, but id have a plan B ready to go just incase its no good when you arrive

It will be clean by the time you get there

It’s just fishable today with green/gold lures

Thanks 7mm, will the fish be beating up or are they good at riding out these floods?

    Cheers FBD

They know what to do in a flood

They probably see 5-10 floods a year

Hi FBD just fished the Manawatu River for the first time tonight after the flood,it was 10 metres higher than normal here during the March flood and there were heaps of little ones breaking the surface tonight.
