    far north fishing

hey team, a mate and myself are heading up to the far north for a week and were trying to find ourselves a charter who would be willing to take us out for some good kingi action, do any of you lads know of some good charters who would accomidate 2 or 3 or us? seems most of them up there tend to take groups of 10 or more for cheap or charge 1000 bucks for a few hours out for 2 of us.

    thanks, ss

How long for the charter hire.
$1K for a day for 3-4 guys seems pretty excessive for up that way.
Got to blame the tourists with long arms and deep pockets.
Seems more logical if you hire a tinnie & outboard on a trailer and a family sized unit at a motel nearby.
If staying in the Hokianga, sounds like accommodation is sorted, so just hire the tinnie, outboard and trailer, tow it over to your fishing spot/s.
Pretty sure members up that way will have a good idea of who to use for boat, motor and trailer hire.
Don't have to own anything except a tow bar and fishing gear then.
Distances are 1-2 hours driving up there, so all you need to know is tides and launching ramps.
Just arrived home yesterday from up there, roads are pretty good - except SH1 in some areas are having roadworks done.
Short lengths only - so won't hold you up much.
Mangamuka-Okaihau- Waimate North- Kerikeri-Matauri Bay took us just under an hour, going easy, with a trailer and ute loaded up.

haha yeah rich bloody tourists alright, all the enquires we have made are for like 4 hours at $250 each with 4 people but since theres only 2 of us they want to charge us $6-700 for "sole" boat hire for just 4 hours. ill have a look at boat hire that could be a good idea iv done a bit of boating with my own boat a couple of years ago.

That's just stupid money, don't quote me but I think for a 3-4hr trip here your looking at around $100-120. See people walking round with a bread bag with a kg or 2 of cod fillets

Nice work. Bit don't forget to let us know how you get on.
Rarotonga was looking pretty enticing a while ago with $185 getting you there with jetstar
