    First fishing trip for grandson

After a couple of weeks of him reminding me I had to take him fishing, I picked up the little fella, dug some worms, raided the freezer for some meat for shrimp bait, we loaded up the Ute and headed out to the river on a mates place.

Little fella got the first for the day, also his first ever fish.

We ended up with 14 carp but no eating fish.

Both had a good day, the old legs are a bit weary from up and down river banks.

Next is a hunting trip, his mother is against the idea but she doesn’t have any say in the matter

    That is fantastic.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Good stuff. With that many snags out there, you do bloody well just to land anything.

Yeah, we had a fun day of it, river is pretty snaggy, lost a fair few hooks and sinkers, seems like every time either of us snagged up and lost gear, while tying on new hook, another bloody fish hit. Missed catching 10 or more. He particularly liked the bit where the carp got a belt on the head, all kids around that age seem to be blood thirsty little heathens.

They taste like shit mate, have tried them a couple of times, but with a muddy slow flowing river they have no muscle tone and smell and taste like a bucket of mud. They are a noxious pest here, it is illegal to throw them back in the water. I don't even like eating murray cod or goldern perch, too fatty and mud tasting for me, I do like cat fish, if you can catch one, and silver perch are pretty good.
