Spiny dogfish are the scurge of every fisherman. Greyboys or smooth hounds are lent to be ok eating but iv always released them. 7 gillers are good to eat aswell but I'd sooner leave them in the water too.

Further to my processing technique, I forgot to add you take the whole belly flap off with the head (down to their ringpiece) then scrape out the "marrow" that lies along the visible spine. Failure to do that won't help the ammonia taint situation.

Mate caught 8 rig last weekend with a mate of the beach here so they moving in. Greyboys are very good eating also .
After keeping my first sevengill for eating a few months ago have to say i thought it was better than rig. Very nice indeed. I be out chasing the rig soon and looking at catching and releasing another bronzie of
    the beach this season

Rig is lovely but fresh elephant fish is beautiful, one of my favorites.

What setup people normally use for rig when fishing from the beach?
I tried a couple of times night fishing around the Porirua boat launch but either my technique, timing or gear is off.

Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

tackle wise I use a pulley rig it helps with casting a bit further out, incoming to high tide, and dirty water/night time is also helpful but when they're around in big numbers you'll get them during the day as well. paddle crabs/prawns for bait.

Normal ledger rig works well. i normally use whole paddle crabs, small to med size, works very well. Either one bait or can use two
Big crabs chop in halve. otherwise prawns can work but i would catch 3 to 1 with crabs v prawns. Dont cast far, rig like to cruise the shallows and the breaking waves, .
I always fish 2 to 3 rods, might throw one out further but a average cast is all you need. Goes for the bigger sharks as well (ie sevsn gillers, tope and Bronzies)
