Did you wind the line on with good consistant tension on it when first putting it on?
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
If you can do that on a spin reel / eggbeater reel Dont even look at a free spool / over head reel .
If you follow the line it comes off the spool, goes through bail arm roller then up on angle as if going to first rod guide....i cant see how that extra line coiled around drag even comes into the equation
Ask @bunji he will know how it happened

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
Its a wee Fantail nest on the piss.
Alright...to gents upstairs. Something what you have `t experienced yet, does`t means it is true. I am bit of old to do what you call shits, jack up....I even do `t look my phone until it ring, so you may know what sort of people I am. If you do `t believe it, I can make a short video and I am sure that reel will make same bird nest again. The picture, I trim it as I always do for reason of saving some storage space of this great site since I do`t know how they support those ongoing costs for server, and piles of load multi medias, lots pictures even low quality ones, the size is above 5mb. So, how would I drive 100km to take a fake photo, for you to tell me a shit....come on we all grown ups.
I take whatever you gents said as compliment because at least you gents thinking about fact, not the man, are you. But who is bunji anyway?

I think there are two scenarios 1) The reel is timed incorrectly so the spool is moving too far in or not far enough out - the wraps should cross and hold the line back. 2) after making a cast there has been a bit of loose line hanging in front of the reel (poor casting technique) and when the bail arm comes over, because of its shape, the first wraps have been above the spool and caught on the drag knob, most times this would just make a 'bird nest'.
