First time taking boat on Hauraki gulf

Ok I did my first trip in the boat to Waiheke island from kawakawa bay for a spot of fishing and a bit of reminiscing of where I had been and how far I had come in the last 23 years.
My original destination was meant to be scully reef at Ponui Island but the southerly against the incoming tide buggered that plan so a last minute detour through sandspit passage saw me heading to the waiheke channel and rounding Kauri point on ponui and making a beeline for ruthes passage so I could take a look at rotoroa island a place I called home for 3 months and by goodness how much it had changed the pine trees were gone and native bush in its place so we anchored up and dropped a line and after an hour or so of no luck it was time to move on.

Next idea was joyces she spotted a mussel farm at the bottom end of Waiheke and wanted to try fishing there and I was wanting to anchor up at frenchmans cap to try there and luck wasn't on our side there either so it was time to up anchor and make tracks back to Kawakawa bay and head back home with a quick stop at Sunday rock to see if we could catch a fish there.

Can't wait to make that trip again yesterdays exercise was to give the engine a good long run before it goes for its 20 hour warranty service on Saturday all up I travelled just over 30K's and only used 12.5 liters of fuel mix, average speed 17-19 knots

Only a fixed VHF instead of the handheld and a rod rack along one side of the cockpit to stash the rods instead of them taking up room in the car, looking at putting in a bilge pump in case I end up in an oh shit moment and need to get rid of water in a hurry instead of having a bucket on hand.

I do go to Kawhia quite a bit and fish in the harbour but those trips are only a 5 minute boat ride each way and strong currents to contend with while fishing (10-12 ounce sinkers required), I do like going to other areas to wet a line it had been 23 years since I last got to fish in this vicinity and that was off the rocks at Rotoroa island when I was a patient there. I loved my trip out there as this is where my love of fishing came to life and I got another chance to keep my life and clean myself up, I have no hesitations in going there again as the area means a lot to me. in Pic number 3 you are looking straight at some of my old land based fishing spots

What sweet place to fish mussel rafts, reefs , sand/mud bottom and a view to enjoy! How deep are you fishing? 10- 12 oz current must fair rip through the area...how much drop ..from top to bottom of tide do you have?

Kawhia harbour gets upto a 3.5 knot current at the entrance, 2.5 knots in the main channel, 1.5 knots by the wharf. Depth from .3m to 24m heavy sinkers needed if you want your dropper rigs to stay put when fishing near the entrance. Where i fished on the weekend way less than that so could use lighter sinkers
