Humpback whales paying northland a visit

    Hi there guys

keep an eye out for humback whales they are feeding and breaching in northland on the eastcoast at the moment
Friends spotted them at north cape last weekend and I had them around my boat feeding for 3 hours yesterday between pukenui and Rangiputa
they are hard to miss when they are breaching and belly flopping so If you see massive splash thats what it should be

Id say they are heading south so keep your eyes peeled

It was absolutly magic to see them, they are really massive when they come fully out of the water
MUCH bigger than my 5.2m alloy boat

Had a visit today from a Seal ,well turned out there was 2.Dog spotted 1st while we where White Baiting.
Wondering wtf it was but at 30' down stream just out from the bank. Was having a very large Coy carp for lunch, made rush back to the wagon for camera & left dog there too. My stand is 40km from the coast, so they're a long way inland.

Photo's aren't great but was raining ,no glasses & they where constantly moving only on surface for a few seconds.Last pic can see the Koi carp/Japanese grass carp, with seal behind it .That carp would of been close to meter long, how big do they grow?

Not some thing I expect to see in river & not that far inland .

Was up close n personal & was a Seal (20') Suspect been in the river system quite a while ,
sort of explains the poor Whitebait season .Nice to see their natural behavior not at Marine land.
