    Kayak fishing Tauranga habour

Morning all. Just looking for some advice. I've shouted my self a fishing kayak and am looking for any tips for fishing the habour. I'm in Katikati for a week at the end Jan and am a total newbie to fishing in salt water. Keen on softbaiting the shallows. If anyone is going out and doesn't mind a newbie tagging along to look and learn I would be happy to shout a box of your favourite amber fluid. Or show you a handy sika spot to taupo if that's your bag.
    Cheers

I can be make some general comments and suggest that your end of the harbour has been fishing well of late, even in 3m of water there have been countless snapper caught on a stray line and soft baits, obviously kingfish are about but can be shy unless on the bite. @Gibo is the kingi king.

You have to release any great white sharks you catch!

I lived there for 30 years. Launch your kayak at end of Beach road. Option one is to head right towards Tutaitak island and strayline the flats there. Option two is to go left and with lightweight ball sinker fish near the light indicating entry to the Uretara estuary. There are plenty of other options, but try those first.

Hoping to avoid those. That's the good thing about lake taupo. A definite lack of great whites..
