    Lyttleton harbour mataitai

    Just got an email about this.(so may be old news)

    Great idea but it's not going to stop recreational 'fishermen' from taking undersized shellfish which I have witnessed a few times. The only thing that would stop this would be to create a marine reserve with no fishing of any type.

    There is a mataitai reserve on Stewart island covering Paterson inlet and it is awesome to see the improvement in the biodiversity and ecology there. Let's hope the same can happen in Lyttleton.

    Or more fisheries officers. Is there plenty of visible signs showing size, quantity and fines?

    yeah there was where i went, was just a blatant disregard for the rules.
