    I not complain
thats a lot when you think about it. the charter guys don't pay anything towards restocking, i believe.

but i should note, that epic charters on the east coast only let them have once kingfish per trip, i've sent my girl "rachel" on two trips jigging on epic through reel adventures

There is a few spots left for a few girls if you want to send your partners on. i'd send her again, but after falling out of the ceiling installing insulation at home, she keeps complaining about her broken hip.

Yip agree even a monkey can catch em when spawning and schooled up. Now to catch good quality snapper all year round, thats when your a snapper fisherman

The guy who lives next to the sea and goes out frequently, taking his self imposed 3-4 fish each trip, verses the guy who goes out 3-4 times a year and takes his 10 fish each trip. The guy who takes his 10 is looked at as a greedy prick and the guy who takes his 3-4 is classed as a conservationist. When the 3-4 fish guy may well have taken ten times the amount of fish over the year.
Yip agree with that. Like it was said, the Govt is guessing as to how much reco's take. Need to get a more accurate account of this per region and adjust quota/bag limit to ensure stocks.

bag limit 5 per person, size limit between 350mm & 600mm. Any more than 10 fillets you are either freezing it or giving it away anyway and bigger than 600 dont taste as good anyway, and are best breeders. Dont get me wrong, i agree that sharing is caring, but often a bigger bag limit encourages people to keep fish they dont really need, and frozen snapper... might as well eat mullet. Commercial guys should have no fish zones season on season off to give areas a rest, and definitely stay outside the 40m mark.
just my 2 cents. I miss snapper none down here....

Yep - and someone probably got a knighthood for services to the fishing industry, while Joe Blow got a fine for 1 extra fin fish. Same as the Maori guy that got a huge fine for taking a wood pigeon, while the logging company that killed thousands by their actions, got awards. Not condoning any of those actions, but there is some smoke that gets blown by big business.

The man responsible for doubling the hoki quota 15 odd years ago immediately left and got a job on the board at sealords.

They are really only supplying a taxi service for recreational fishermen. They are still bound by the recreational rules if they do drop a line over the side themselves.
Would be a bit like charging taxi drivers for dropping you of at certain venues ie rugby.
Unfortunately I have to agree with this. If the punters don't pay the boat stays home and no fish caught.

Got to agree,, But Ild rather eat blue cod any day. And they hit the recreational fishers hard over these in the sounds.

Yea ive heard about the no fishing zones there and having to provide proof of where you were fishing... would want a good plotter fishing round there. Blue cod not bad, but give me john-dory and/or puka any day! snapper was just easy in the Hauraki Gulf especially living 2 mins from the ramp! spoiled! wish i could trade some fishing expertise for a leg up on some deer!!

I never saw it in that light,

i heard a charter operators at the pub claiming that last year was a good one and it was something over 9000 snapper kept on one boat and they are allowed to do it.

It would be good to see some money be put back into the water, a farmer has to buy this cattle, feed his cattle, have land available for his cattle. it seems unfair that commercial and charter operators almost get a free source of fish, without looking after the resource.

this is just my view, i can be wrong sometimes

The same argument could be applied to wild game recovery

Your rights as a recreational fisherman are at risk to protect the interests of commercial fishing. Do something about it! Ensure that our children enjoy the fishery as we have. The recreational catch limits have decreased continuously to "rebuild" the fishery while the commercial sector are still harvesting levels simmilar to 1986 ???
One of the proposed options increases the commercial quota by 500 tonne-- How does that work?

Visit LegaSea and look at the proposals and send in a submission.
