Yes, I remember well those days down the Rakaia mouth. 25 - 35 pound fish were the norm. Shoulder to shoulder with surprisingly few tangles, and Kahawai were a bloody nuisance

Hard case. Looks like you are fishing in the middle of a city?

Well the state has shut down a shit of our favorite spots as the runs are really starting to pick up…they do this so that the numbers returning are strong, for good reason…. They have allowed a few spots to remain open… this is a stretch about 5km west of Portland on the Columbia river…. They gave us 2 days to fish… 2 a piece .. we have 5 … trying to catch the last one

Cut plug herring and cut plug plastics are working

    "cut plug"???
Ok. Just googled it. Looks like a popper? Are they a surface lure or do you fish them on a downrigger?

I remember catching a 9lb fish in the river just upstream from the mouth fishing with the old man. I would have been 10 or 11. Quite a good hole with 4 or 5 others fishing there. Buggers just laughed when I landed the fish.

Nah mate…running 340 gram weights…bends the rod at 8 meters running downstream…..running 4 poles at varying depths to see where the fish are running,……the electronics on the boat paint a lot of fish…it just seems they bite at different levels.

Yesterday we were running the bait between 7-10 metres……8 metres seemed to be the honey spot

These boys don't know what pressured fish look like!!! Spring Chinook seem to bring the entire population of the northwestern US out the the Columbia...or at least 50,000 of em or so.
I'll be fishing the mud on the Snake for the next two days...gotta fish my favorite spot before I leave this land
