Any one been out of Clifford bay ? There's a wee camp by the beach and there a reasonable place to launch small boats .

Go for the fin-nor you won't regret it built like a brick shithouse I am slowly starting to go the fin-nor route with all of my gear which started from buying two fin nor rods but still won't part with my penn850ss or my shimano aerlex 8000 and both of those reels will stop or slow down a good sized fish.

I have an Okuma Salina high speed. 14kg drag, 5:1 ratio. Good as a Stella for a third of the price.

Nothing's as good as a Stella, and certainly not for a third of the price!!!

I dont know much about okuma egg beaters but if their game gear is anything to go by there are far cheaper options to store nylon on.

Interesting, I have one of their cheap "hundy dollar" snapper combo's which gets absolutely thrashed and not loved afterwards. Still working after 5 years and caught more than a few big snapper

Trolling & casting are 2 different applications really you need specific reels for each .
Stella for the casting but maybe a Mitchell ripe tide or similar for trolling.

Had an Okuma ABF80 lasted 12 months.Couple of eagle rays ,1 kingi few snapper then thrown on the rubbish bin.
The bait feeder jams ,the front drag didn't function properly & the 5 year warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on.
I had to pay for repairs for faulty parts & freight costs. Quite frankly it was a piece of shit I paid $165 for.
To add I now have a ABF90 as a back up reel but seems to be built a lot better than the 80 model.

Agreed, I don't use and eggbeater for anything, overhead or baitcaster for all applications even surfcasting.
But if you must then Daiwa Saltiga, very underrated in NZ!
