This is Weka my 6.0m Sea Ranger - these were designed sold by a business in Havelock, she was built in 1999 and has been in the family since, I brought my family out 10 years ago and replaced the old 150 V6 Johnson 2 stroke with the Merc 150 EFI 4Stroke in 2013. New motor has been brilliant so good on gas, quiet, powerful, easy to start - really changed boating for us i.e. I have a 12' tinny above the high tide mark and an 8hp in the shed and I have not used that for at least 7 years - much easier to grab Weka even for tootling around the bay. Looking at upgrading this year to something a little bit bigger with a few bells and whistles like a hard top, anchor winch, windscreen wiper etc.

@AMac if your happy with the boat maybe you could get someone to add the anchor winch and wind screen wiper. Hard top could be a step to far though.

I looked into adding an anchor Sideshow but came to the conclusion that there was just not enough room - just wasn't designed for it. Weka has served us really well for 23 years, my thinking is to upgrade now while I am still working, to something 6.7m +/- with modern design that will also last 20 odd years which my sons can eventually own just like me with Weka.

    My name is Bunji & l am a Boat'aholic

Currently own 3 & looking for a fourth & was in a Syndicate with a 31 Bertram up until the end of last year Moored in BOP , where my Lill Bro lives ,that l had not set foot on Deck for 2 years of the Lock Down Cluster Fucks ,where as we would normally spend summers in it at every chance.

We have spent a lot of time in boats in some of the remotest waters on the Planet ,Chartering/ Guiding/ Running off the coast & Rivers of PNG & Top End of Oz ,my missus & l also spent just over six months Sailing through the South Pacific in a Yacht, a 1979 Hans Christian 43T Ketch we rebuilt in the harbor at Singapore ,the owner a victim of the Financial Meltdown that hit just as he was about to refurbish her ,so we got a Ketch filled tom the brim with spares .Over 7yrs we also spent 4/12 months travelling on a mates Canal Boat ,we hired off him , in the UK & a 3 week cruise in France , something we will spend a extended time doing at some stage in the future .

. I had a client while l was guiding who was a well respected Naval Architect and Marine Designer for the Pro Cray Fishers ,we did a swap & he did plans for jet hulls that me & a couple of mates each built & our 8mtr Walk Around Dive/Sport fisher that the 3 of us built .I am lucky to have been close mates with a Marine Engineer l met through diving & another who l met through my Off Road bike racing days ,who is a top welder, who was then specializing in Custom Motorbikes ,but earns a living now Hyperbaric welding around the world & we all went partners in the "Big Bitch" ,8 years ago & we have repowered them all since 3yrs ago.

I also own a custom six mtr plate CC Dive boat ,with Wet Deck that was my mates work boat for his Cray boats

Big Bitch 8m Alloy full walk around, cab sleeps 4 ; Dive /Sports Fisher Weighing in at 4ton dry or 4.5ton with fuel . She has a pair of 225 Hondas which push her along just over 55mph. On 2 engines around 13LPH at 7.5kts with six adults & Dive gear .

Jet boat still has my business Wrap on it so this is as much as you get to see at present

Very lucky to have a Missus who likes hunting & loves Boats & is always keen for a extended multi day trip in the Jet exploring remote bits of river for hunting .Pic was taken when she had the offer to either go spend a Weekend in high end Air B&B or take the Jet for a over night hunt

The Jets we built are ; hulls are 3.9mtrs ,with a 12mm Keel & six mm one piece, 15° deadrise, Beam @ chine 1540mm,a six mm Raex steel plate overlay,4 mm top sides & six mm one piece engine bearers .All high grade marine aluminum used through out .

We repowered them around 3 yrs ago with Direct Import ,Grey motors & then custom built them to our specs ie Blue Printed motors ,Garret Turbo & hand made custom intakes, Fuel Rails & HP Injectors High Flow Performance Exhaust Headers etc, etc all pumping out a Scott Water Jet .So the Suzuki M18A Turbos are just cruising with heaps of power as l run mine at 8 or 9lbs Boost but they are set up so at 11lbs Boost the Peak power they are putting out is 238 hp & 257 lbs-ft torque.

Hi there @ bunji, keen to know more about your (quite heavy?) jet set up.I assume it's a std 612 pump with std blades?how does the pump hang onto that horsepower- any slippage @ WOT with a heavy load.I,m currently running 8_9 lb boosted M18aT on a std bladed 612 on a shorter, lighter hull. Am considering beefing up the engine internals to push up to 11lb boost, but only if the 612 will hang onto the extra thrust .Scotts claim the 612 is rated to 300HP but to be honest most of Konrad's claims are a crock of sales pitch shit.Interested in your feed back ,cheers

@bluebaiter222 Yeh absolutely no problems with the Scott units or with the engines running at full noise, as one of the mates has ran his at full boost since it left his shed floor & we use our Jets hard a lot as we have Fiordland at our back doors & hulls are set up for winch & lift use etc. I set mine up for hunting expeditions & reliability more than high end noise, so have been more than happy with the build/set up & will not ever sell it now or wind the boost up ,as it is perfect for me & the missus/mate & hounds doing overnighter or longer hunting expeditions pushing into to Tiger Country & balances all the performance Vs reliability requirements we have .

I have also always been really careful with maintenance on all my gear but in particular my boats, as having spent so much time in remote waters in PNG & Kimberley's etc ,where no one is coming to help any time soon & lots of biteys to happy to clean up the scene if the worst happens ,the old motto you can not get out & push them home is what l operate on & it is always a lot easier to work on them in your shed than on a river bank.

While using our Jets for example Wap hunting every year & using our winch systems, in the early days the rescue mobs would get calls from boaters & pilots reporting crashed/lost boats in the trees, as they could not believe where we reach ,luckily we twigged to this happening before hand & let every agency & week end warrior know before hand in writing & by phone & face To face to avoid any Panty Wetting. The Scotts handle blasting through rubbish well ,but like any unit you treat them like a Concrete Pump & you will have prob's.

We used the Scotts before hand on 3.6m jets we ran they have never given any probs & one mate is still using his old unit ,we only went up in hull size as extended hunting trips using the Jets became a regular for us ,now with the new Bach surrounded by prime Jet country ,l am looking at adding a 4.1/4.2 in the shed for easy river trips with a couple of extra mates thrown in with us & will have no probs running another Scott unit when l do the refit of it .

@bluebaiter222 Yep send it through we are home now .

@Woody I thought it was a Kingfisher in the back ground of another photo you posted a while ago ,great boats ,we towed one behind our "Big Bitch" for years down to Stewart Island a couple of times a year & have been caught in some big water with it ,that it handled well .

Used it quite a bit with first a temperamental 2hp then a 8hp.....small leaky unstable and unsafe but it got me out fishing.
Still in service but as a rowboat only...it's too thin to be made to plane anymore.

Super stable, super low draft was perfect for what I designed if for but couldn't justify keeping it once they banned setnetting flounder here.
