    Small boat fishing Paihia

The family is off to Paihia for a week over new years and I was planning on taking the boat.

Boat is a Mac360 and the main question/advice I'm after is safe places to launch and fish around the area. Goes without saying I'm not after spot x, just safe areas for small boat launching and fishing.

    Cheers

Launch at Waitangi. Got to be early to get a parking spot this time of year. Good fishing around Roberton Island, middle foul and the nine pin

It's a long way to the Nine Pin in a Mac360. On the seaward side of Roberton & the other islands is good & gives you the option to nip in behind the islands if the wind gets up. Around the Blacks Rocks or Capstan Rock is another option. Watch out if you get wind against tide it can get very choppy for a small boat coming around Tapeka Point. Make sure you know the rules for dolphins in the Bay, there's low speed zones & DOC will be out enforcing them.

Cheers guys, have heard Brampton shoal is also worth a look? Not too far in good conditions either.

Yes, very close to Waitangi & not far from there to Kent Passage, Moturoa Island & the Black Rocks. The Black Rocks are good just for exploring in a small boat, you can right up to them. There's a nice beach at the eastern end of Moturoa Island & from there you can go up to the WW2 gun emplacements that have a spectacular view of the Bay. If you have young kids the lagoon on Roberton Island is a fun, safe snorkel at high tide. There's a short walk & look out on Roberton as well.

Thanks all, successful start, heaps of snapper but had work hard to get the legal sized ones. Checked out Brampton shoal today and out towards Moturoa, managed to land 2 undersized Kingfish which were a great fight.
