Thread: Softbaiting the Tekapo canals

Had a little road trip last Sunday to Tekapo . On the way back I stopped to have a look at the canals.
A few guys fishing and got some info from a nice guy who was soft baiting.
I have done plenty of soft baiting for snapper with great success.
Watched some good videos on You Tube this week and it looks like fun and a great way to hook a salmon or two.

Just wondering if any of the southern forum members are fishing the canals and what kind of success you are having and what techniques you are using ?

soft baiting can be pretty productive caught plenty of salmon and trout in all the canals usually at first and last light. never done soft baiting in the sea but usually i just cast up stream and when the jig hits the bottom give it a little flick and wind and just follow it down the canal repeating as you go.

I tried fishing the canals a couple of years ago with softbaits and no luck, the joker next to me was catching them on these.



Suppose to imitate fish row.

if you can tigh a fly that looks like a food pellet, you ll have no trouble catching those big monster near the farm ;-)
