Mahi mahi is awesome! Caught some in Rarotonga. And yellow fin fresh in soy.

For sashimi Albacore is OK, Skipjack not so but Yellowfin IMO is king. Cant say Ive tried Bluefin though, and it fetches high prices on the japanese market so must be the business.
Mahi Mahi is called Dolphin in the States. Took a few kiwis aback when the locals mention how nice dolphin was to eat. Also called Dorado (pretty sure dorado is gold in spanish). Really beautiful fish.
I once cut off a submarine at the entrance to Port Everglades bringing in a big bull Mahimahi. Stupid thing surfaced about 500m behind us. Be fucked if I was giving up without bringing the fish in.
Sorry I meant to say mahi mahi in butter on the bbq.mmmm

I was served fresh Yellow tail mackerel sashimi in a high class japanese restaurant very recently, and I have to say, it was bloody lovely.

Does the Mahi Mahi make good sashimi? Or is it just a cooking fish?

Never seen one in the flesh mate. Swordfish, yellowfin, skipjack and bigeye are all I have had the pleasure of pigging out on in a galley. Maybe they hid the good stuff till I left
Heading up the sounds in a couple weeks for our yearly trip. I thought I would impress and cover my bases by bringing up some yellowfin and Mahi Mahi to compensate for my crappy fishing ability.
