I have been up through mt white a few years ago to the privately owned hut.
As long as people threat it as priviledge alot of access blocking wouldn't happen.
I have heard horror stories of how people act with farmers that have what people thought were doc easments through property.
The few will ruin it for the rest is the general rule.
A box of piss and a bottle of wine for the missus can open alladins cave some times.
It amazes me how many people don't get it!

Yep. The former manager was very accommodating. Unfortunately after they left the owner removed all access rights even to the private owned block out back. It got messy with lawyers etc.
Theres been a few managers since and the current aren't bad to deal with. They do now charge an access fee.

Eric Wong might be registered in Hong Kong but he spends the majority of his time in England with other Financially-Privileged people who believe that Laws don't generally apply to them . There was a large Protest when he put his hand up to buy it as people wanted it to remain in New-Zealand ownership . I can't remember the details but I'm pretty-sure that the Land-Status technically made it unsaleable to overseas-buyers . Even that clause allowing-access , to facilitate the sale , was a dodgy Old-Boys-Network ploy that he never had any intention of honouring
