    Upper Princhester hut, Takitimu Mountains

    Hi guys
Thinking about an armed tramp over Nov / Dec this year.
Will probably park at Lower Princhester and maybe have a look at Becketts hut as well
Any idea on the track conditions ?
Will have wifey tagging along, so don't want to do it if it's an ultra marathon
    Cheers

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Yip, what I meant was the general topography, easy walking, mountain goat needed, suitable for an overnight trip ?

Hey mate definitely doable for an overnighter walk to the hut would be moderate, no mountain goat stuff Haven't been there in years, used to be a good spot and should still be.

A good hunt was to walk 15min up the river from the lower Princhester hut, then turn right bush bash to the top of the ridge and there was some nice slips up there.

Good walk to Upper Princhester, did there and back as a day trip a couple of years ago - you shouldn't have any problem overnighting it. Decent track 75% of the way from memory, and following the riverbed after that (so not a trip to do just before, during or after heavy rain).

The hut can a bit tricky to find, I know people who ended up camping after not finding it but I didn't have any trouble. Its on a terrace a bit higher above the river than you might think, steep little track through the scrub heads up from the riverbed. Position on the topo looks about right.
