Probably $1000, it is a tool that’s had a hard life, coming up to 3900 rounds, some long string on goats 20+ rounds in a minute or two, flipped of the quad and hill, sliding on scree, one trip I’ve crawled through that much dirt and mud the trigger wouldn’t work.
It still shoots straight got a hind at 80m and a roaring stag on dark at 504m last week along with 11 goats from 400m to 719m first round kills, so its still shoots good.
But have been thinking for a couple of years now that it would make a great 15” or 16” 284win after the 270 barrel is burnt out.
I looked into this a did a chop and dpt modular which allowed me to adjust down size to where I was happy with noise vs length. Read a heap on it and there's plenty studies out there.

Here's a 16" accuracy one but search rifle shooter.com cutting 308 barrel. It's surprising how suited the 308 is to chopping.
Bullet weight is an issue and you'll find most of the test found that the light and heavy bullets lost accuracy first. 149s were the winner though that depends on twist.
Also interesting after being told you need a certain amount of twist one site show a that you can stabilise a bullet for 400m shooting and an incredibly short barrel. Good luck. And watch that hearing.
Sent .308 away, has since returned and put some shots down range this arvo. Cut to 14” shooting 150SSTs @2626. Once sighted in at 100 dialed straight out to 450yds and hit what i was aiming at. Happy as Larry!
Note - DPT currently out of stainless baffles
(Couldnt be bothered setting up targets so shot a a small clay bank @450yds
What load are you using to get that speed?

I was using factory SSTs. Theyre putting out pretty much exact same as fusions were with a 18” barre
Bet that first baffle isn't gonna last long
They ll be available very soon, we were setting up the lathe for them this eve.
My only comment was that at 14" you would probably have to alter the stock fore end. But I guess you know that.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
Out of interest, what would the 6" of tube cut off from that barrel (assuming 20" factory) weigh?
Edit: I did some maths... looks like it would weigh about 265 grams? (depending on the barrel profile)
