But with the high BC bullets that are the norm nowadays, none of the rounds end up anywhere near 2.8" without the bullets needing to jump the grand canyon to reach the rifling. You're better off instead using a medium length action and going with the somewhat longer 57mm cases for which these actions were designed — along with the longer, heavy-for-calibre bullets. Magazine length goes up from 72-73mm (short action) to 84mm (medium action) for only a 6mm increase in case length; that's 5-6mm more for seating the bullets out. @trooper90, are you happy now?

Yes I'm quite a fan of the 7x57 in fact I think actions to suit the cartridge length used to be done so much better

Mine was built on a Howa so a medium action it shot the Hornady 120 HP really well and the 115 Nosler B tips.

Always wanted one. Never got one.
When I got rid of the woodsmaster 243 that wouldve been the time but mate put me onto a M70 lightweight 243 and stuck with that.
Now I seem to buy other calibres.
