yeah a 303 will go through a wet tahr at 100 m pretty easily.

I'm questioning why the veracity of the title's gone on to two pages!
wet blankets strung around camp WOULD in some way help against sniping...visual barrier and if not stop projectile it might have deflected it a little... hard to shoot something you cant see.
Maybe one too many drams were consumed. More to do with concealment I would say.
Unless ofcourse the shot was fired from miles away.

Worked with a South African years ago who claimed some houses in rougher neighbourhoods had two sets of curtains with a gap between them. Claims they would stop an AK 7.62x39 round as the first curtain would make it tumble and the second set would catch it, but it wouldn’t work on R1 (South African FAL) 308 rounds they’d sail straight through. So if it’s a myth there are flavours of it around the world.
The Blanket Folded over nine times perhaps
now i have to admit i have never shot an animal with a 303, but have with a 308 which is in the same league.
i shot a bloody woolly very wet goat at 200m plus. the projectile went all the way thru with massive damage, now a few things to take into account with this theory.
1: blanket hanging so no real full mass behind it though wet wool is bloody heavy !
2: its bullshit
my old no4mk1* .303 I regard as being equivalent to the almighty kiwi bowler Ewen Chatfield AKA the Nae Nae express medium pace but can be deceptive .HOWEVER-Ive never been able to test my theory out cause ive never found any bastard willing to act as wicketkeeper. even regulation 10mm military steel falling targets ended up with holes in @200m -much to the suprise of my regular cadre SGT who was my spotter for the task like wise my company commander .I cannot tell al ie however I"accidentally slipped two .303 A P rounds into my mag of military surplus ammo.me mates thought it a hoot .the other round that packs a real punch on my old girl is the 180gn round soft nose -ive sent those through trees .not recommended for hares or possums either -instant compost.
@kotuku Funny; I was just about to say I wonder if the originator of the 2 wet blanket theory would be prepared to bend over behind the blankets ant put the theory to test.....
...On the topic of bullets and blankets, Paul Harrel does an interesting experiment with a blanket covered mattress. The blankets are not wet but it does make good speculation that a vertically hung heavy wet blanket might have some effect in stopping projectiles of certain size and velocity.
It does work. Seriously.
But shit, those Kevlar blankets are scratchy to sleep under!
I briefly had a New Zealand Home Guard manual which mentioned this in the section about preparing buildings for defensive positions.
It did mention hanging wet blankets in the windows and covering the openings with chicken wire to keep grenades out.
