Anyone one want to or starting a pistol club?

    Hi all,

Myself and few like minded mates wanted to start a pistol club not far North of Auckland. We have a like minded land owner. Peter Miles (absolute legend for coming out to inspect) give it the okay for certification and a group of potential club members. However after reading the entire chapter 7 of the Rodney District Plan I discovered some major road blocks in starting the club in this particular area. Essentially a resource consent bill exceeding 20k with a potential "NO" at the end due the fact it falls in a SNA.

Between myself and the couple of others (being the few) have some significant resources to add to a potential start up Pistol Club. I have heard lots of chat about people starting up and closing down or having to many members and its a wankery club anyway talk. SOOO... anyone starting up or anyone wanting to start please let me know. Any advice or options appreciated.

I and the others are fully prepared to do shovel time. Have access to building materials at better than trade rates. Contractors with heavy equipment at the right prices and are prepared to make donations and roll our sleeves up!!! Basically to get involved at what ever level.

    Cheers in advance

Good on ya for giving it a go.

Starting a Pistol Club is easy.

Just form an incorporated society and your away.

You also don't need to be affiliated to NZP unless you want to that is.

Setting up and certifying a range is the hard part, resource consents are costly Especially if they are notified, as is having the range surveyed and certified.

    Good Luck with your endeavours.

    Cheers
    Pete

How far North of Auckland? May be interested. 20k is a pretty low cost for consent so that's a pretty good start. Yes Peter Miles is a top bloke. What type of shooting will the club do, IPSC, Service, Speed etc

    Cheers.

I could be interested in this, need a good rifle range up here as well. The place where I usually shoot is getting too built up.

    Good luck Redneck.

Council probably coud get pissy about where the lead ends up. We always joke about the lead in the berm being the land owners retirement fund.

One word of advice though, our club wishes it had set the range at atleast 100 yards at the start, instead of 50. 200 would be even better for shooting metal animals.
