    AR-15 Problems

My first ar was one of them. Had the same problem. I found if I bent the lips on the top of the mag a bit and clipped a few coils off the spring it solved everything. (Can always stretch the spring if needed)
My only other advise would be is the bolt properly lubricated?

Don't try insert fully loaded mags with the bolt closed, it's not designed to be able to do that. You can with some more modern mags i.e. pmags.

AR mags are the weakest link in the system and hilariously all the new fancy guns which are supposed to be better than the AR have stuck with them

It was how I was taught NZArmy when I first handled m16s back in the 80s.(load,action,instant) others will remember this and its the same with the steyr, and yes it is easier to load with the bolt open.

The NZ Army was teaching you the wrong thing if they were teaching you to insert a fully loaded AR mag with the bolt closed.

so run my mags in another gun, them seemed to work fine. Had the gun checked over today. It was the returning spring, too short not enough pressure to come back and pick up the bullets and close the bolt. good to go now thanks guys

Have a couple of asc braned ones which I modified from 5 to 7 rounders by trimming a bit at a time off the bottom of the compressed spring. These work good. I think that aluminium mags with a lot of spring tension, the bolt does find it difficult to strip the first round out of the mag. Something to do with the aluminium gripping the case more than the stainless or poly mags. When you are fitting your mags with the bolt closed it does take a bit more effort to fully seat the mag and when chambering a round pull the charging handle all the way back and let it fly forward don't ride the action. Sometimes easier to load the mag with bolt back and hit the bolt release if the bolt doesn't go fully into battery hit the bolt assist that's why its there. You may be having new gun issues that will go away with use, could try some spear 7 round mags aswell.
    hi
How much of the spring did you remove?
    cheers

One turn at a time till you can get 7 but not 8 rounds in. I did stretch the spring a little after to retain the same tension, but it may not really be necessary.
