Massive, are you implying that the Handloaders Range isn't safety conscious? Because I'll have to take issue with that!

I didn't say that. I said NZDA is more safety conscious.

Fair enough, can you explain how it's more safety conscious?

I would have thought that range safety wouldn't differentiate between ranges. Attitude and atmosphere could certainly vary....

Every use of the NZDA range has to be supervised by an RO. Most RO's are not key holders so both access and use of the range is controlled.

This can be bloody frustrating when you just want to go and have a shoot but it's been done that way for a reason.

As people have said the pace is a lot slower and they are more saftey concious but there are more shooting bays and you are not fighting for a spot with the rest of Chch trying our their new tacticool SKS from gun city. 13th Aug is the next public day at NZDA. They also run a second day per month for club members and other than that you have to be a RO or ask one nicely to use the range.
So 13th aug is public range day? when is meeting??

So the NZDA doesn't trust its members. Lol

I like the Handloaders as its open 24/7 & you can go shoot when you want.

Of course council politics is the current hurdle, but with enough support, hopefully this all happens. It's a long term project.
so maby i just havent thought this through but shooting ranges on flat land seem like a bad idea what if someone discharges there 50 cal 1000m rifle on a bit to much of an angle wouldnt it go over the top of the range banks and for km's past the back of the complex?

Correct. On the plus side our range had never burnt down due to members using banned tracer ammo.

That's just rumour, the club contacted a lot of members who were shooting there that week & no one saw anyone using tracer.

So what was the reason for the fire, if not tracer?

(not trying to start a s%^t fight, just keen on hearing why ranges burn - so can try and stop it potentially happening to ours)

I heard the fire may have been started by a cigarette ....... but this is completely "Hearsay"
