My first 22 was a fancy H&K but found it too small. Sold it and brought a Stirling Model 20 which shot tons of possums, rabbits and goats. Then some C-unit broke into my house and stole it. I think Stirlings are like fine wine, rough as guts to start with but age into something superior (sharp edges ground off!).

I had one as my rabbit board rifle, I hated the 10/22 as issued so opted for my own. We got an "allowance" for using your own gear in those days.
Broke the stock and bent the barrel one night doing an endo on the motorbike, did the same to the shottie. Got the rifle replaced on insuranc and the stock replaced on the shottie.

At the time we had an ex armourer on the board and he restocked the shottie for me and made the Stirling shoot like a demon!
Sold it in a duh moment and bought a 10/22 target model.

The Stirling had one of the scopes of the period ( still have it) 4 x 32 Kasna, tubes bent but it still holds a zero for a while, used to get a fair bashing on the handle bar carried down the scabbard.

Thanks for sharing @Dundee bought back some memories for me.

When I was a kid the Stirlings and Toz rifles were all over the place. My old man was a bit refined and got a Voere. I have a TOZ 18 today that shoots as well as any .22 I ever met in person.

Well joe 90s kind gift to me is now safely in my hands courtesy of a him and a very kind mate of his .as a bonus mate gave me some yummy fallow venison too to try .Is wonderful to be part of a community of good buggers or as me old mum used to say "kind hearted arthurs!". In addition to the Redfield scope he also gave me ,ihave discovewred aan old tasoco in my stock of "parts,so the rifle may have this fitted .The mag problem is as yet unsolved but i do have a couple of options on the go.

I have a 14p in the cupboard i picked up a couple moons ago, bloody accurate little rifle for the kids to shoot bunnies etc. I've just found it doesn't grab and eject the spent cartridges on some ammo. But the ammo I've used has just been loose rounds of all descriptions.
What have you found the best in the Stirlings?

@Pongo12 new set of extractors are in order I reckon
When I first got mine back in 87ish it did the same thing with PMC ammo which was a pain as it was cheaper than the rest. Not much wrong with them and I reckon I might have them still but they didnt work

Do them yourself. Not that hard.
Been too long since I did it so no specifics but wasnt difficult.
If I was doing it now I'd have a crack at re sharpening them
If I feel ambitious I'll dig mine out for a squiz

well well lifes just got a tad more interesting.Having been the recipient of some kindness from joe 90-a stirling .22 and scope.iwas extremely chuffed .however it lacked a mag -apparently rare as rocking horse shit although enquiries by me to a poster on here tells me imported marlin mags do fit with a little adjustment.now ,as i often do ,iwas sitting cleaning the wee beastie and looking at the mag well when "bingo"In my safe lurks a rebuilt toz17mag (Ive gotb two issue ones. Hmmmmmm-will it work??-yessiree with a wee bit of work Ima reckonin ill have my stirling mag..stock off at present, sanded ready for a quick refurbish.just a tidy up as like all mine she aint no closet queen.

i was given a handful of 10 rounders that had been shortened from 15s after the ban. The guy handed in the rifle because it broke extractors, but gave me the mags. My 20p isnt fussy, itll shoot anything well and no reliabilty issues. remington gold bullet aquilla and australian winchester i tend to avoid, its super dirty shit, leaves behind valve grind paste. The 20p is sometimes daunting to some in terms of disassembly, but honestly, if youre careful, and done it a couple times its a piece of piss.
