No Mossy sticker on the stock though Bent Barrell... it's all the rage to keep it on these days. And I hear from a reputable source that it actually improves accuracy... stiffens up the stock, as the synthetic fibres deteriorate. That might account for the accuracy issues? If I were you, I take it into a gunsmith and get the structural sticker reapplied.

I have had two of those VX1 3-9x40 scopes. Even when I had superb young eyesight they had really bad 'flare'. Point anywhere towards the sun and the scope is unusable.
Normally at 40 -45 years a mans eyesight deteriorates and so we need to buy good scopes. I sold my two VX1's and my other three leupolds and bought good scopes.
I would buy a good scope now and sell the leupold as a sooner rather than later

Take the cardboard core from your kitchen paper roll and slip it over the suppressor. Mirage reduction.

one of my longest shot on a deer was steeply up hill and got mate to hold my hat up over scope so I could see...wouldnt have mattered what scope I was using...there is nothing wrong with basic leupold 3x9x40 some of us have been using them for years happily....

I can certainly agree with the flare problems with my vx1, but when I was a young broke apprentice it was all I knew. I wish I had recorded the critters that ended up on the table with my first rifle/scope setup (T3 with a vx1), I saved for 6 months back then to be able to afford it haha. That little scope fed us many goats, the odd pig, and a good few deer (for a northlander), I carried it so often, good memories.

Same for me, thought the Leopold was the queen of scopes - certainly were better than most other scopes at the time. Face the music, you are getting older and need a good quality scope now.

Quote… Great stuff Larrygoat. A great reminder that we don't actually need a brand spanking, top of the range whatsit, with the shiniest 50million power, latest, greatest gimicky whatever to shoot a deer.

Ah……..no……. Yes u do…. Nothing wrong with it
