    Kaitoke gun range

Finally got to the range today for the first time.

But what a mission trying to find it, I didn't expect it to be lit up in neon but the directions I had been given were crap.

Had a great day, met a lot of good people, a guy even bought his daughter for a shoot - it was so cool watching him show her all the safety aspects and how to hold and shoot the rifle.

Put 40 rounds through my brand new Howa 1500 7-08 ( apologies again to 6x47 for mucking you around ) - annoyed I didn't take more as I was enjoying the awesome weather and time just flew.

Had the miss fortune of not having my earplugs in when an unsuppressed 7mil Rem went off next to me - geezus that hurt and what a shock wave!

I was surprised and pleased to see so many Howa 1500 rifles on the range, now that I'm loosing the AR I will definitely buy the Howa 223 package deal from Gunworks - it is so quiet its not funny.

Had a blast with the 10/22 - took the silencer off in the end as it was just too quiet and it felt like I was shooting a slug gun, went through about two hundred rounds since I run out of the 7-08.

Looking forward to the next visit - I hope they sort the bloody padlock though, the ranger had to come and unlock their lock as the D.S. lock shit itself.

Next to find is somewhere / thing warm and furry to eradicate.

    Be safe all,
    Mark.

    Hi Mark,

Is it a NZDA range? - just waiting for my scope. Can’t wait to put the first rounds through my new Howa as well!

Yep, sorry I though the "D.S. lock" part ( Deer Stalkers ) gave it away

Make sure you get a high zoom scope, I could barely see my target at 100m with my 3-9x40.

One of the guys had a 6-24 scope for 200m shooting but most scopes in that range cost more than the rifle.

I also have a spotting scope which is just awesome but I need to get a decent tripod for it so it sits next to me rather than on the shooting table.

And that's why I like semi autos, every time you have to reload a bolt action you have to reset your position and composure to get on target and that annoys the shit out of me, us oldies need as much help as we can get, lol.

No worries - I am a bit slow...

What are the rules at the DS range - are you allowed to put a gong up or does it have to be a paper target?

Steel is OK as long as its angled down to send ricochet to the ground, there's info relating shooting steel on the website.

Wow, that's a bloody good package from Reloaders.
I might just have to get mine through them too.
